About the Cardigan
I'm going to show you how I made this mini bag. I also have a video tutorial of this pattern available on YouTube and the link to that video is available below.
Materials
The materials you will need are:
* Some yarn in your chosen colour
* A crochet hook
* A tapestry needle
* Some scissors
For the example I used DK weight acrylic yarn and a 4mm crochet hook.
American crochet terms are used for this tutorial:
Hdc = Half double crochet
Ch = Chain
Ch-sp = Chain space
Mc = Magic circle
Sl-st = Slip stitch
Sc = Single crochet
Instructions
Foundation Chain
--------------------------
Chain 11 which doesn't count as part of the round.
Round 1
-----------
Turn and sc 9 down the chain, sc 5 into the last stitch, working on the other sidesc 8, sc 4 in the last stitch. You should have 26 stitches in total.
Round 2
------------
Sc 10,Sc 2 in the next 3 stitches. Repeat this one more time to reach the end of the round.
You should have 32 stitches in total by the end.
Round 3
------------
In round three, sc in the back Loops only for the entire round.
Round 4
------------
Sc in both loops around.
Round 5
------------
In this round we're going to start the decorative stitch and in this case I've chosen the Moss Stitch or Linen Stitch depends on which one you prefer.
To start ch 2, skip 1 stitch and sc into the next stitch, ch 1, skip 1 and sc into the next, repeat 13 times until the end of the round.
Round 6
------------
Ch 2, sc into ch sp, ch 1, sc into ch sp, repeat until the end of the round.
Round 7
------------
From round seven onwards continue around in a spiral.
Ch 1 skip 1 and sc into the ch sp, repeat this all the way around.
This round is the one that gets repeated until you reach the depth you are happy with. Choose the depth of the bag that is required for your project.
Last Round
----------------
Once you have crocheted to your desired depth sc around in both the stitches and the chain spaces.
You should end up with the same number of stitches as you had in round two.
When you reach the end of the round you should be in one of three stitches with the stitch marker in the middle stitch. From here make the number of chains you need to make the strap the length you're after. Hdc back down then sl st into the third stitch on the other side of the stitch marker.
Fasten off and weave in the tail.
The Strap
--------------
I left the strap unattached on the other side because I wanted to be able to easily take the bag off and put it back on the amigurumi.
I used a snap closure on the other end of the strap.
For a larger bag I would keep going back and forth for a thicker strap and try not to put anything too heavy into the bag or another possibility is to make this strap separately and sew it onto the bag afterwards.
I have a video tutorial that accompanies this. Please click on the video thumbnail to be taken to the YouTube video.
